My lack of focus has become very close to a physical sensation, like a sort of pain. I'm wriggling around trying to get away from it, as though something were hurting me. It is a compulsion and I seem to be powerless in the face of it. I always thought that ADD or ADHD was mainly behavioral, but if this is what that is like, I have a newfound respect for the problem.
Getting up and moving around is helping. I'm going to go do that some more. This is like nothing I have ever experienced in my adult life. It's gone past boring and taken a left turn into something really weird.
Dear Jokamo,
ReplyDeleteWould you like to try something unconventional?
If you are right handed, put a small silicone ear plug in your left ear, and, if you can tolerate it, an eye patch over your left eye. If you are left handed, put those things on the right side.
The theory is that a lot of ADD/ADHD is because of mixed dominance between the hands, ears, and eyes. If you are taking in information through the non dominant side, it makes you squirrelly.
You begin by wearing the plug and patch, or at least the ear plug, for a half hour at a time, and work your way up.
It might be worth trying.
